How to Create Offers (And Why Simple Wins)

How to Create Offers (And Why Simple Wins)

When starting a business, one of the biggest mistakes people make is trying to offer too much, too soon.

More services.
More products.
More options.

It feels productive, but it usually does the opposite.

The fastest way to get your first customers is to start with one clear offer and test it.

🔑 What Is an Offer?

An offer is simply:

What you’re giving someone, who it’s for, and why it’s worth their money.

It’s not your logo.
It’s not your tools.
It’s not your business name.

It’s the problem you solve and the result you give.

Example:

  • ❌ “I do pressure washing”

  • ✅ “I clean wheelie bins for busy households”

Simple. Clear. Easy to understand.

🚀 Why You Should Start With ONE Offer

When you’re starting out, offering one thing helps you:

  • Get confident talking to customers

  • Learn what people actually want

  • Build trust and repeat customers

  • Avoid confusion

Customers don’t want lots of choices.
They want one clear solution.

Once you have customers, you can always add more later.

🧪 Why Testing Your Offer Matters

Your first offer doesn’t need to be perfect.

It just needs to be:

  • Clear

  • Simple

  • Easy to try

Testing means:

  • Offering it to real people

  • Seeing what they say yes to

  • Learning what they say no to

Every “no” teaches you something.
Every “yes” means you’re on the right track.

🧠 Offer Formula (Made Simple)

A great offer is built using this formula:

Value = (Dream Outcome × Likelihood of Success) ÷ (Time Delay × Effort)

Let’s break that down in plain English 👇

✅ Dream Outcome

What does the customer want?

  • A clean garden

  • A tidy driveway

  • A gift-ready candle

  • Freshly baked treats

✅ Likelihood of Success

How confident do they feel that you can deliver?

  • Clear explanation

  • Simple service

  • Professional attitude

❌ Time Delay

How long do they have to wait?

  • Same day or next day = better

  • Long waits = less appealing

❌ Effort

How much effort does the customer need to make?

  • You turn up on time

  • You bring everything needed

  • You keep it simple

👉 The more value you increase, and the more effort/time you reduce, the stronger your offer becomes.

✍️ Your First Offer Exercise

Grab a pen and complete this sentence:

“I help __________ by __________.”

Examples:

  • “I help busy neighbours keep their gardens tidy.”

  • “I help families enjoy clean bins without the hassle.”

  • “I help people buy handmade gifts that feel personal.”

That’s your starting offer.

🧩 Final Tip: Start Small, Grow Smart

You don’t need:

  • Loads of services

  • Fancy words

  • Big promises

You need:

  • One clear offer

  • A willingness to try

  • Confidence to talk to people

Every successful business starts exactly here.
